The Energy Behind Procrastination
Mar 20, 2022Hiii Starlight..
Getting distracted is EASY, and the thing is... Anything can be a distraction.
Procrastination is often associated with intentionally avoiding tasks or responsibilities, but distractions can play a significant role in fueling this behavior. They provide an easy escape from the discomfort or difficulty of the task at hand, allowing us to temporarily shift our attention to something more enjoyable or less demanding...
And some times this is NEEDED!
Distractions are abundant and can come in various forms, both obvious and subtle. We are often aware of the common distractions like Netflix and social media, but there are deeper layers to consider. These underlying distractions can actually hold valuable lessons and insights if we approach them with mindfulness.
In our daily lives, it's easy to get caught up in the pressure to constantly achieve and accomplish. The guilt that arises from not checking off every item on our to-do list can overshadow our inner guidance system.
However, procrastination can sometimes be a sign from our inner being, guiding us towards what truly aligns with our authentic path. By practicing the art of asking and listening to our inner energy, we can tap into a deeper sense of knowing. This inner guidance can lead us towards the next steps that are in alignment with our true selves, bringing us closer to a sense of fulfillment and purpose.
Remember, it's important to find balance and discernment in navigating distractions. While some distractions may hinder our progress, others may hold valuable insights. By honoring our own inner rhythms and listening to our intuition, we can find the right path for ourselves that leads to ALIGNED TIMING ✨✨✨
THE ENERGY BEHIND PROCRASTINATION
Consider these inquiries to gain a deeper insight into the forces driving procrastination:
♡♡♡
DOES IT FEEL OVERWHELMING? 😩
If it feels like its somethings that's too big & you don't know where to begin...
Try breaking it down into smaller steps, which can make it more tangible. Even committing to working on one thing 15 minutes every day will start to get momentum flowing in a that way (plus you actually begin to create new neural pathways in your brain that will support this energy of movement). You can look at what calls/pulls the most & start there or pick the top 3 priority feels.

IS THERE A LIMITING BELIEF SYSTEM? 🤔
Often, procrastination is not just about delaying tasks; it's rooted in deeper belief systems.
For instance, prioritizing self-care might uncover beliefs about not feeling worthy, or the notion that you must handle everything solo, leaving no time for yourself.
Other examples include the struggle with setting boundaries or declining requests, which might stem from ingrained ideas of what you believe you "should" do.
Venturing into new territories, sharing your work, or striving for perfection before taking action can reveal fears about how you're perceived or a pressure to be flawless.
Embracing something unique or different can expose underlying insecurities or vulnerabilities... The scenarios are endless and deeply personal.
To explore this, journaling about what you're putting off and questioning "What scenarios does this bring up for me?" followed by "What do I need to understand or do to feel resolved/safe to advance?" can be enlightening.
Once you get clear on some of your belief systems, you can start taking steps on your own, or always ask for help with the tools and guidance from someone your trust.

IS THIS SOMETHING THAT I "HAVE" TO DO VS INSPIRED TO DO? ✨
We're often conditioned to believe that if we're not actively "doing" what's expected of us, we're somehow falling short and deserve to feel guilty. Yet, this pressure might actually be your inner compass nudging you towards a path of refinement. Rather than struggling against the current and forcing completion, it's about embracing the process, allowing ideas to mature, and nurturing what's not yet ready. This approach can lead to clearer, more impactful outcomes that flow effortlessly and resonate more deeply.
Consider the power of simply being in the moment. For instance, I often think, "If I'm having a 'butterfingers' day and was 'supposed' to create fine art, today is not the day for that." Embracing the present and the natural rhythm it brings can open unexpected doors, leading to outcomes that unfold in surprising and often ways that are better than expected. 🌈

AM I DOING IT OUT OF OBLIGATION FOR SOMEONE ELSE VS FOR MYSELF? 🤔
Granted, there are tasks that must be done, involving our time and interaction with others. At times, these tasks may feel draining rather than enriching. However, aligning your personal energy with these tasks can be a crucial step towards moving forward in a way that resonates with you.
Take, for instance, a looming work deadline that brings stress. Engaging with this task by affirming your energy can transform the experience:
"By investing my energy here, I open pathways and opportunities for myself."
"Facing any challenges in this task, I trust my clarity and inner guidance to lead me to solutions that resonate with me."
"This task, while part of my job, is an opportunity for my talents and strengths to shine."
Or consider the act of preparing meals for your children:
"In nourishing my child, I also care for and nurture my inner child."
"Creating this meal is an expression of my creativity."
"Choosing to order food for my family brings ease and support into my life."
The more you get your own energy behind what you're doing, & connecting with the tasks at hand, you not only transform the experience but may also gain insights into aspects of your life (such as work, relationships, or beliefs) that are calling for change or refinement.

ARE YOU TIRED? 😴
Sometimes your body just needs the rest. We live in a world that often equates time with money, pushing the narrative that constant activity is more valuable than taking moments to rest and rejuvenate. Instead of operating from a place of fullness, many find themselves running on fumes.
Consider this question: "How full is my cup?" Evaluate your current state, and if you find yourself depleted, take the time to refill your cup. This could be something as simple as enjoying a leisurely walk outdoors or soaking in a warm bath. You'll know when it's the right moment to pick up the pace again, rather than pushing through tasks while exhausted, which often leads to subpar outcomes.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Instead of burning the midnight oil to complete tasks, try going to bed earlier. Allowing yourself a short nap or a longer rest period during the day can be incredibly rejuvenating. You might discover that after giving yourself this break, you're able to accomplish your tasks more efficiently and effectively than if you had tried to power through while tired.
- Seek out small opportunities for intentional rest. This could be as brief as taking a moment to close your eyes and breathe deeply, asking yourself, "What needs my attention right now for me to make the best next move?"
By tuning into your body's needs and allowing yourself the rest you require, you'll find that not only does your productivity improve, but your overall well-being benefits too.
